Group Therapy

You might be feeling a little hesitant about the idea of group therapy. Maybe it sounds intimidating or vulnerable or just… not like you. That’s a completely valid place to start. Many people worry they’ll have to share too much, too soon, or that group therapy will feel impersonal. But here’s the truth: some of the most powerful healing happens in relationship, especially in safe, intentional spaces where you’re seen, heard, and supported by others on a similar journey.

At BattleRobin Counseling, group therapy is more than just talking, it’s about connection, discovery, and transformation.

Why Group Therapy?

The patterns that cause us the most pain, like difficulty trusting, fear of rejection, perfectionism, or people-pleasing, don’t just come from nowhere. They were learned in relationship, often from early experiences or past traumas. And while individual therapy is an incredible space for insight and self-reflection, group therapy offers something unique: the chance to practice new ways of relating in real time.

In group, you get to learn new things about yourself, experience how others see you, explore your impact, receive support, and challenge the patterns that keep you stuck. You’re not just talking about connection, you’re living it. Group provides space to learn new perspectives or skills, try on new roles, express your truth, and build trust gradually, in a supportive environment where growth and vulnerability are celebrated.

Roll for Growth – Dungeons & Dragons Therapy Group

What if healing could include rolling dice, telling stories, and stepping into a character who reflects parts of your inner world?

This isn’t your average therapy group. In this Dungeons & Dragons (D&D) therapy group for adults, we blend the immersive, collaborative world of tabletop role-playing games with evidence-based group therapy practices to foster connection, insight, and meaningful growth. Each group session includes 90 minutes of gameplay followed by 30 minutes of facilitated reflection and interpersonal processing. You’ll journey through fictional challenges, forge relationships with other characters, and explore how your in-game choices reflect real-life patterns, beliefs, and emotional dynamics.

This is a process-oriented group which means that beyond the game, we’re also talking together about the feelings, interpersonal themes, and challenges that arise both in and outside the session. Whether you’re struggling with self-doubt, boundaries, emotional expression, people-pleasing, or trust, this group offers a unique, creative, and trauma-informed path toward deeper understanding and healing.

This group is designed for adults who want to:

  • Build greater confidence and self-expression
  • Strengthen frustration tolerance and emotional regulation
  • Practice collaboration, assertiveness, and boundary-setting
  • Explore and shift relational patterns in a safe and supportive environment
  • Experience the power of collective storytelling and co-regulation through play
  • Develop a more compassionate, empowered relationship with themselves

You don’t need to be a seasoned D&D player to join, just a willingness to engage in the story, try new things, and explore yourself through the process. We’ll guide you through the gameplay and provide structure to keep the group therapeutic, fun, and growth-focused.

Group Structure:

  • Adults 18+
  • Rolling admission, with group capped at 6 participants
  • Members commit to a minimum of 12 weekly sessions
  • Each session is 90-minute (75 min of gameplay + 15 min of process work)
  • Grounded in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Narrative Therapy
  • Sessions held virtually via secure video platform
  • Cost: $75 per session

This is a great fit for folks who are looking for something more experiential and dynamic than traditional talk therapy, especially those healing from relational or attachment trauma. If you’re curious whether this group is right for you, we offer free 30-minute consultations to explore fit and answer any questions.

Acceptance & Commitment Therapy Skills Group

Feel like your thoughts, emotions, or past experiences are getting in the way of the life you want to live? This group is here to help you reconnect with what matters, by learning practical tools to navigate the hard stuff with more flexibility, mindfulness, and intention.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is an evidence-based approach that helps people build psychological flexibility, the ability to stay present with your inner experience (even the tough stuff), and still take meaningful action in alignment with your values. Rather than trying to “fix” or get rid of painful thoughts or feelings, ACT teaches you how to create space for them, loosen their grip, and choose actions that move you toward the kind of life you want to live.

In this 10-week group, you’ll learn how to:

  • Develop mindfulness skills to stay grounded and present
  • Identify and clarify your core values—what truly matters to you
  • Defuse from unhelpful thoughts and limiting self-stories
  • Make room for painful emotions instead of avoiding or battling them
  • Take committed, values-based action, even in the face of fear or uncertainty
  • Cultivate self-compassion, acceptance, and resilience in daily life

Each session will include brief teaching on a core ACT concept, opportunities to practice the skill together, and supportive group discussion to explore how it applies in real life. You’ll receive worksheets, guided exercises, and take-home tools to keep building your skills outside of group.

Group Details:

  • Open to adults
  • 60-minute sessions, weekly for 10 weeks
  • Held via secure telehealth video platform
  • Group capped at 8 participants for a supportive, connected atmosphere
  • Cost: $50 per session
  • Facilitated by Dr. Allison Battles, licensed clinical psychologist with extensive experience in trauma recovery and values-based care

This group is a great fit for folks navigating anxiety, shame, depression, or life transitions, and anyone wanting to live with greater clarity, purpose, and self-compassion. No prior therapy experience needed.
