Group Therapy

You might be feeling a little hesitant about the idea of group therapy. Maybe it sounds intimidating or vulnerable or just… not like you. That’s a completely valid place to start. Many people worry they’ll have to share too much, too soon, or that group therapy will feel impersonal. But here’s the truth: some of the most powerful healing happens in relationship, especially in safe, intentional spaces where you’re seen, heard, and supported by others on a similar journey.

At BattleRobin Counseling, group therapy is more than just talking, it’s about connection, discovery, and transformation.

Why Group Therapy?

The patterns that cause us the most pain, like difficulty trusting, fear of rejection, perfectionism, or people-pleasing, don’t just come from nowhere. They were learned in relationship, often from early experiences or past traumas. And while individual therapy is an incredible space for insight and self-reflection, group therapy offers something unique: the chance to practice new ways of relating in real time.

In group, you get to learn new things about yourself, experience how others see you, explore your impact, receive support, and challenge the patterns that keep you stuck. You’re not just talking about connection, you’re living it. Group provides space to learn new perspectives or skills, try on new roles, express your truth, and build trust gradually, in a supportive environment where growth and vulnerability are celebrated.

Holding Space: A Stress Support Community

Holding Space is a free, weekly stress and emotional support group for people in the Twin Cities and across Minnesota who are navigating the weight of personal, collective, and community stress. Many people are holding a lot right now. This group offers a place to slow down, share what’s present for you, and connect with others who may be carrying similar experiences.

Facilitated by two psychologists, the group provides a warm and welcoming environment where participants can talk about the emotional impact of daily life, current events, and the many stressors affecting our communities. The intention is not to “fix” what you’re feeling, but to create space for reflection, validation, and connection. Sometimes simply being able to speak openly and be heard can ease the sense of isolation that stress and overwhelm can create.

Each session offers guided structure while remaining flexible to the needs of those present. Participants are invited to share what they are holding, listen to others, and engage in a supportive conversation that centers care, compassion, and community.

This group is not psychotherapy, but rather a facilitated support space designed to help people process stress, connect with others, and remember they are not alone in what they are carrying. Participation does not establish a therapist–client relationship and is not a substitute for therapy or crisis services.

This group may be helpful for people who want to:

  • Have a space to talk about stress and emotional overwhelm
  • Connect with others in the Twin Cities community
  • Feel less alone in the challenges they are navigating
  • Slow down and reflect in a supportive environment
  • Witness and be witnessed in a caring community space

Participants are welcome to join as often or as occasionally as they need. There is no expectation to attend every week. You are welcome to simply show up when it feels supportive.

Group Details:

  • Open to adults located in the Twin Cities and across Minnesota
  • Wednesdays, 4:00–5:00 PM CST
  • Weekly via Zoom
  • Free to attend

Roll for Growth – Dungeons & Dragons Therapy Group

What if healing could include playing games, rolling dice, telling stories, and stepping into a character who reflects parts of your inner world?

This isn’t your average therapy group. In this Dungeons & Dragons (D&D) therapy group for adults, we blend the immersive, collaborative world of tabletop role-playing games with evidence-based group therapy practices to foster connection, insight, and meaningful growth. Each group session includes 90 minutes of gameplay followed by 30 minutes of facilitated reflection and interpersonal processing. You’ll journey through fictional challenges, forge relationships with other characters, and explore how your in-game choices reflect real-life patterns, beliefs, and emotional dynamics.

This is a process-oriented group which means that beyond the game, we’re also talking together about the feelings, interpersonal themes, and challenges that arise both in and outside the session. Whether you’re struggling with self-doubt, boundaries, emotional expression, people-pleasing, or trust, this group offers a unique, creative, and trauma-informed path toward deeper understanding and healing.

This group is designed for adults who want to:

  • Build greater confidence and self-expression
  • Strengthen frustration tolerance and emotional regulation
  • Practice collaboration, assertiveness, and boundary-setting
  • Explore and shift relational patterns in a safe and supportive environment
  • Experience the power of collective storytelling and co-regulation through play
  • Develop a more compassionate, empowered relationship with themselves

You don’t need to be a seasoned D&D player to join, just a willingness to engage in the story, try new things, and explore yourself through the process. We’ll guide you through the gameplay and provide structure to keep the group therapeutic, fun, and growth-focused.

Group Structure:

  • Adults 18+
  • Rolling admission, with group capped at 6 participants
  • Members commit to a minimum of 12 weekly sessions
  • Each session is 90-minute (75 min of gameplay + 15 min of process work)
  • Grounded in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Narrative Therapy
  • Sessions held virtually via secure video platform
  • Cost: $75 per session

This is a great fit for folks who are looking for something more experiential and dynamic than traditional talk therapy, especially those healing from relational or attachment trauma. Roots & Resonance – Personal Growth Group for Pagans, Witches, & Other Spiritual Seekers

What if your personal growth could unfold in a space where your spiritual path is welcomed, respected, and understood?

This personal growth group is designed for adults who identify as a Pagan, Wiccan, Witch, Druid, Heathen, polytheist, or aligned with other nature-based traditions / spiritualities, and who are seeking a supportive community to deepen self-awareness and cultivate meaningful change. Together we create a warm, spiritually affirming environment where participants can share openly about life’s challenges, process their experiences, and receive support from others who value spirituality as part of their growth and healing.

Each session blends reflection, community support, and practical growth work. We begin with a short grounding meditation or intention-setting practice to help participants arrive fully in the space and connect with their inner awareness. From there, the group moves into facilitated community conversation where members can share what they are navigating in their lives, receive support, and learn from the perspectives of others walking similar spiritual paths. Sessions conclude with identifying empowering actions, insights, or intentions to carry forward into the week ahead, helping participants translate reflection into meaningful change.

The group honors a wide range of spiritual identities and practices without centering any single tradition. Whether your spirituality is rooted in earth-based traditions, personal practice, ritual, meditation, or intuitive connection with the natural world, you are welcome here. The focus of the group is personal growth, connection, and cultivating a life that feels more aligned with your values, purpose, and inner wisdom.

This group is designed for adults who want to:

  • Cultivate growth while honoring their spiritual path
  • Process life challenges in a supportive community
  • Strengthen connection and reduce isolation

Acceptance & Commitment Therapy Skills Group

Feel like your thoughts, emotions, or past experiences are getting in the way of the life you want to live? This group is here to help you reconnect with what matters, by learning practical tools to navigate the hard stuff with more flexibility, mindfulness, and intention.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is an evidence-based approach that helps people build psychological flexibility, the ability to stay present with your inner experience (even the tough stuff), and still take meaningful action in alignment with your values. Rather than trying to “fix” or get rid of painful thoughts or feelings, ACT teaches you how to create space for them, loosen their grip, and choose actions that move you toward the kind of life you want to live.

In this 10-week group, you’ll learn how to:

  • Develop mindfulness skills to stay grounded and present
  • Identify and clarify your core values—what truly matters to you
  • Defuse from unhelpful thoughts and limiting self-stories
  • Make room for painful emotions instead of avoiding or battling them
  • Take committed, values-based action, even in the face of fear or uncertainty
  • Cultivate self-compassion, acceptance, and resilience in daily life

Each session will include brief teaching on a core ACT concept, opportunities to practice the skill together, and supportive group discussion to explore how it applies in real life. You’ll receive worksheets, guided exercises, and take-home tools to keep building your skills outside of group.

Group Details:

  • Open to adults
  • 60-minute sessions, weekly for 10 weeks
  • Held via secure telehealth video platform
  • Group capped at 8 participants for a supportive, connected atmosphere
  • Cost: $50 per session
  • Facilitated by Dr. Allison Battles, licensed clinical psychologist with extensive experience in trauma recovery and values-based care

This group is a great fit for folks navigating anxiety, shame, depression, or life transitions, and anyone wanting to live with greater clarity, purpose, and self-compassion. No prior therapy experience needed.
