Looking for a different kind of therapy, one that honors your story, embraces your identity, and invites creativity into the healing process? At BattleRobin Counseling, we believe that growth doesn’t have to follow a traditional path. We specialize in using imaginative, culturally attuned approaches, like therapeutically-applied role-playing games (TA-RPGs), narrative exploration, and empowered storytelling, to support emotional and relational healing. Grounded in evidence-based practice and guided by deep respect for each client’s lived experience, our work centers justice, authenticity, and connection. Whether you’re navigating trauma, identity, or life transitions, we provide a welcoming space for healing through creativity, collaboration, and community.
We are in-network with Aetna and offer self-pay options for all other clients. Superbills are available for those seeking reimbursement through their insurance provider, and we accept Health Savings Account (HSA) cards and Loveland Foundation vouchers. Good Faith Estimates are provided in accordance with the No Surprises Act to help you make informed decisions about your care.
Individual Therapy
Individual therapy services are tailored to each client’s clinical, cultural, and personal needs. We approach therapy from an integrative, culturally centered perspective, helping clients explore their self-understanding and community connections to live a more authentic, values-driven life. Liberation and humility are central to our clinical care, and Dr. Battles specializes in working with LGBTQIA+, BIPOC, religiously diverse individuals, military personnel, and Veterans. She focuses on aiding those recovering from trauma, chronic stress, and associated comorbidities, with expertise in healing complex PTSD, attachment-based traumas, and moral injury. Dr. Battles is certified in various treatment modalities including Time-Limited Dynamic Psychotherapy, Narrative Therapy, Acceptance & Commitment Therapy, Cognitive Processing Therapy, and Prolonged Exposure.
Couple’s Counseling
We offer couples counseling to help partners strengthen connection and navigate challenges together. Our approach integrates behavioral and attachment-focused methods to address difficult communication patterns, reactive cycles, and areas of disconnection. Therapy is tailored to each couple’s unique strengths and struggles, giving them practical tools and fresh perspectives to foster patience, authenticity, and a more fulfilling relationship.
Roll for Growth – Dungeons & Dragons Therapy Group
Our Dungeons & Dragons therapy groups use therapeutically-applied role-playing games (TA-RPGs) to support mental health, personal growth, and connection. Led by a licensed clinical psychologist and certified therapeutic game master, these groups invite participants to co-create characters, engage in collaborative storytelling, and explore meaningful themes like identity, relationships, and resilience. Each group blends structured gameplay with reflective processing and is grounded in evidence-based approaches like narrative therapy, ACT, and interpersonal process, offering healing through creativity, community, and a bit of adventure.
Acceptance & Commitment Therapy Skills Group
Struggling with anxiety, self-doubt, or life transitions? The Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) group offers a structured 10-week journey to help adults build psychological flexibility and reconnect with what truly matters. You’ll learn mindfulness skills, clarify personal values, and practice tools for navigating difficult thoughts and emotions with more compassion and intention. Rooted in evidence-based care, this group provides a supportive space to cultivate resilience, take meaningful action, and live with greater clarity and purpose. Ideal for those seeking to move through challenges with greater presence and self-trust.
ADHD & Psychological Assessment
We offer collaborative, insight-oriented psychological testing services to help clarify diagnoses, uncover patterns, and guide personal growth. Specialties include ADHD evaluations for adults, diagnostic clarification (e.g., PTSD, OCD, bipolar disorder, personality disorders), and Therapeutic Assessment—a personalized, in-depth approach that explores emotional, cognitive, and relational dynamics. Whether you’re seeking answers for yourself or support in therapy, our testing process provides meaningful insight, concrete recommendations, and a clearer path forward.
Therapeutic Role-Playing Game Training Group for Providers
This experiential training group is designed for mental health providers, healers, educators, and community leaders who want to learn how to facilitate therapeutically applied role-playing game (TA-RPGs) groups by engaging as group participants. This unique training provides the opportunity to experience the group process firsthand, learning techniques and methods experientially.
Participants will engage in self-reflection, collaborate in storytelling through role-playing their characters, and immerse themselves in the group process. However, this training is not intended to serve as therapy for providers. Instead, it offers an opportunity to build skills through active participation and discussion. Each session will conclude with group processing and a brief didactic component to link the experiential learning to practical facilitation techniques.
Trainings / Public Speaking
Dr. Battles’ clinical expertise includes trauma-related conditions, trauma-focused treatments, TA-RPGs and other forms of group and individual gaming therapy, and geek/gaming culture. She has given national, regional, and local trainings in these and other areas of expertise. Trainings are available upon request and Dr. Battles will work out a training program tailored to your needs.
Consultation
We believe that education and resources in therapeutic gaming should be available for everyone and we want to help fellow professionals with creating their own group. Individualized consultation services are available for therapy professionals, businesses, advocates, and community organizations.
Clinical Supervision
Dr. Battles has over a decade of experience in the mental health field as a clinician and advocate. She has been teaching graduate students and providing clinical supervision to training psychologists in individual, couples, and group psychotherapy for the past five years. Primary clinical orientation emphasizes Narrative Therapy, Acceptance & Commitment Therapy, and Time-Limited Dynamic Psychotherapy. Supervision services available for MN-based psychologists.
